When science grad tries to explain me about current economic situation

Which field should I choose to get better job perspective?

It seems that there's lots of demand for IO people in consulting and tech, and the even the starting pay is close to 200k. They can also go to the public sector such as DoJ, FTC, but they pay much less.

Macro finance people can go to macro hedge funds and investment banks. The pay is unlimited and far more lucrative than consulting and tech, but they're also much harder to get. They can also go to Fed, IMF, etc. which pay more than DoJ, FTC, etc.

So it looks like IO is a safer bet, but the upside of macro finance is much higher if you manage to get into the door?

They have been hiring every year, sometimes more than one. Is the department exapanding exponentially or is there too much attrition?

I'm supposed to start a job the first day of July but there is really no way for me to move my family to that location so soon.

What to do?

Is it necessary to share your witty thoughts to get a job these days?

Or only some offices

I want to become journal editor. How to?

In many job ads of Canadian unis, I read a sentence like "All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority." See, e.g., https://econjobmarket.org/AdDetails.php?posid=3162. Does this basically mean that I do not have a chance at a Candian university without citizenship/residence permit?

Received email from department (top 20) chair (AEA executive committee) that AEA 2021 will be surely cancelled unless vaccines are developed before that. Department has been directed to detach from AEA scheduling and timeline and plan for recruiting online.

Did she publish anything 8 years out of grad school?
How is she still at a top school?
What's going on here? There is no such thing in the entire profession.

The APs they hired in the last 4-5 years are not publishing, not even in good field journals.
