Economist on "Famous theorists in Asia"

I was doing my sabbatical last year in Asia and happened to meet a few theorists from top schools in the region. Some of them are really deep thinkers (Mihichiro Kandori, Wing Suen, and another guy from Kyoto, just to name a few). I'm not a theorist. Judging from their CVs, these people can easily generate full professorship offers from my R2 school, and possibly low-end R1s, but why they choose to stay in Asia? Are they too old to be marketable?

Don't mean to be offensive. I find Asia amazing. Just feel these people could probably do much better if they were in the states.

Advice needed for the folks in the US

I travelled back to my home country when university got shutted down. My parents urged me to come back, we were worried about the ugly covid-19 situation in my state as well as the coming quarantine loneliness.

I found lucky to be home now, but also worried about when I could go back to the US. Expert said that situation will be even worse in Oct this year when flu season kicks in.

How likely do you think the school will reopen in Sep? Do you think I should come back under current situation (3rd year phd here without proposal)?

Any lecturer bros out there? You expected to do any research still? Options for moving on?

Similar questions for visiting positions? Are these good career starting positions? Or would it be better to take LRM TT or HRM lecturer/visiting?
